Rhino anti-poaching

LAEO is working in association with the KZN Rhino Watch campaign initiated and run by East Coast Radio. In October 2011 a helicopter with a full time pilot, was deployed by King Shaka Aviation at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. This Park has among the highest concentration of rhino in the world and is therefore arguably one of the most significant places for rhino conservation.

The helicopter was returned to Durban in May due to a lack of funding. The war on poachers is best fought from the air and KZN Rhino Watch aims to raise funds for this. Since September 2012 KZN Rhino Watch has raised over 1.2 Million ZAR for aerial surveillance and protection to date. KZN Rhino Watch has subsequently joined hands with Project Rhino and ZAP Wing, Zululand Anti-Poaching Wing has been formed.
